이 준, 이효섭, 장성균, 김형준의 <MixPlore: The Joy of Mixology>는 지난 9월에 열린 ‘P.Art.y 2007’ 페스티벌에 초청된 작품으로, 작품개념과 이에 적용된 '생각하는 사물'로서의 피지컬 인터페이스를 중심으로 제작과정 및 문화컨텐츠로서 미디어 퍼포먼스의 현위치, 그리고 공연에서는 들을 수 없었던 뒷이야기 등을 함께 공유한다.

<MixPlore>는 인간의 오감과 소리, 움직임, 사람이 하나의 즐거운 혼합물이 되는 것을 구상하기 위해 ‘칵테일’에서 힌트를 얻은 프로젝트이다. <MixPlore>에서는 시각, 청각, 촉각과 미각이 서로 통합되고, 여러 감각이 하나로 합쳐지기도 한다. 예를 들어 소리를 얼음처럼 만지거나 음료처럼 마시고, 심지어 칵테일의 맛을 음악으로 듣는 것이다. 통신망으로 연결된 이 퍼포먼스는 배우들간의 의사소통, 배우와 관객간의 상호작용으로 전개된다.

이 준은 디지털 이미지와 사운드를 동시에 조절할 수 있는 피지컬 컴퓨팅 테크닉과 프로그래밍 언어를 예술과 음악에 접목시킨다. 대표작으로 2006년 리움의 <아트 스펙트럼>전에 초청된 ‘Media Bottles’과 아트센터 나비의 ‘Trialogue’ (2001) 등이 있다. 서울대에서 시각 디자인과 컴퓨터 공학을 전공한 그는 스탠포드 대학에서 음향의 디지털 기호 처리(DSP), 컴퓨터 사운드용 조정기 디자인, 소리의 시각화 등에 관한 연구한 ‘Sound Cocktail’(2004)로 석사학위를 받았다.

이효섭은 그래픽, 미디어 디자이너로서 모바일 아트와 웹아트를 실험하고 있다. 최근 광고용 모션그래픽 ‘Multi-therapy’ (2006)와 퍼포먼스를 위한 인터랙티브 설치 ‘뿌리’(2006)를 발표했으며, 현재 KAIST 문화기술대학원에서 Fashionable Computing for ubiquitous environments에 관한 연구를 진행 중이다.

작곡가이자 DJ, 미디어 아티스트인 장성균은 현재 서울대 작곡과에 재학 중이다. 컴퓨터 프로그래밍과 작곡에 기반한 연산법을 연구하며 일렉트로 어쿠스틱 음악과 댄스, 영화 음악, 사운드 설치 작업에 참여해왔다. 대표 작업으로 실험전통악곡인 ‘한소리’ (2006)와 ‘Exhibition: VS.’ (2002), ‘Audio Art Festival’ (2003) 등을 연출했다.

김형준은 스크린 미디어의 독립적인 커뮤니케이터로서의 영향력에 대해 연구하고 있다. 현재 연세대학교 커뮤니케이션 대학원에서 BK21사업과 YMAP연구원으로 참여하여 연구와 공연작품을 발표하고 있으며, 인터랙티브 미디어와 대형멀티스크린을 사용한 대표작으로 'CTRL revolution chronicles'(2005~현재) 연작과 'Vb'(NONEIM전, 2005), 'Newstreet!'(AFI 공공의순간 전, 2006) 등이 있다.

‘The Joy of Mixology’ is concept borrowed from the cocktail making envisaging pleasurable mixture of tastes, human senses, sound, dance and the people as in the party. MixPlore tries to make a further integration of human senses-the sense of the eye, ear, skin, and even tongue: you feel various senses integrated to one, for instance touching sound as ice or drinking sound as cocktails, or even hearing the taste of the cocktail as music.

Zune Lee combines arts, music, physical computing techniques, and computer languages that can simultaneously control digital images and sound in real time. His work includes ‘Media Bottles’ shown at ‘Art Spectrum’ at Leeum (2006) and ‘Trialogue(2001)’ at Art Center Nabi. During his master’s in Arts/Music, Science and Technology at Stanford University, Zune researched audio digital signal processing (DSP), controller design for computer-generated sound, and visualization of sound.

Hyo Sub Lee is a graphic designer and mixed media artist exploring mobile and web platforms. He recently presented motion graphics for a commercial ‘Multi-therapy (2006)’ and ‘Puri(2006)’, interactive media installation. He is currently on his master’s in Culture Technology at KAIST exploring interaction design based on Fashionable Computing for ubiquitous environments.

Sung Kyun Chang is a composer, DJ and media artist studying music composition at SNU. With interest in algorithms based on computer programming and composing electro-acoustic music, sound installations and music for dance & film, he has worked on various pieces by collaboration as a hybrid experimental music ‘Hansori(2006)’ whereas directing ‘Exhibition: VS.(2002)’ and ‘Audio Art Festival (2003)’.

Hyung-jun Kim (Psyche Brandson) is a media artist and theorist of human communication, researching screen media for standalone communicator. He is currently on his master's in Communication & Art at Yonsei University and also a researcher of BK21(Brain Korea 21, Nat'l Project) and Member of YMAP(Yonsei Media Art Project Group). His recent projects are 'CTRL revolution chronicles'(2005~now on goning) series, 'Vb' (2005, NONEIM), 'Newstreet!'(2006, AFI Public Moment).
